...and Gallic's shaft
of wit, and German’s gloomy genius. - Alexander Blok

Stephen Bush has this in-depth profile of Jeremy Corbyn, offering his account of the Labour leader and his thinking.

Corbynites are now just about in the majority on Labour’s national executive committee, where their numbers will be strengthened by plans to appoint more trade unionists and ordinary members. The run-up to the conference in Brighton has seen Corbynite candidates trouncing centrists in elections to committee chairmanships. Just as Tony Blair sidelined left-wing activists in the 1990s, Corbyn is empowering them.
One snag for Corbyn is that they are overwhelmingly pro-EU; if he were sincere about the party being ruled by its members, not elites, he might agree at the annual conference to advocate continued full membership of the single market. In practice, it seems the views of ordinary members matter less than those who share Corbyn’s Euroscepticism.
Good old as Comrade Corbyn is an unreconstructed Communist. Will Britain really be that stupid? If Brexit was a risk/problem. Corbyn will be a disaster. The closest Australia ever came to this was letting Jim Cairns run treasury for a while.
Is this the same “Economist” who prematurely awarded Wayne Swan the world’s best treasurer title?
The ‘mad’ pills are starting to have an effect all over the world. We are teetering on the edge of the abyss.
