Appeal in the eve of presidential elections
BSSB.BE jurnal.md/ 20.10.2016
“The free press could be decisive in this unequal battle with the government; The regime will heavily use all the methods to compromise the election”
The media NGOs and the small number of sources of independent press that have still remained are urged to mobilize at maximum for reflecting impartially, correctly and equidistantly the electoral campaign for the presidential elections from October 30. The appeal comes from the Dignity and Truth Platform leader, who warns that the ruling regime will heavily use all the methods to compromise the election.
“We are at crossroads. We have a unique chance to save our country and future. That is why, the involvement of free press institutions can be decisive in this unequal battle with the anti-popular government and its representatives”, is said in the appeal signed by Andrei Năstase.

There are several days until the citizens with right to vote will be able to exercise their right to elect their president, the right achieved through protests, pressure and sacrifice.
The complexity and the importance of the moment is so great because in the situation of the Republic of Moldova, over 80 percent of mass-media belongs to a single patron, determined to establish in the seat of president a servant of his, or a weathercock that can be manipulated and blackmailed.
During the whole electoral campaign, the press subordinated to its master polished the image of the candidate of the hybrid government, pouring tons of information misery on competitors who truly matter, who engaged to destroy the corrupt and criminal system and put the bases of change for better of human lives.
In this media landscape, the ordinary man was poisoned with lies, fairy-tales about the so-called stability and success of the government, which nobody saw or felt.
The ones who declare that hear, listen and act are, in fact, deaf and dumb to people’s needs and pain. They solve the problems by laying on the impoverished people’s shoulders the recovery of the stolen billions, enslaving for the next 25 years the unborn babies.
Propaganda, manipulation and misinformation – these are the weapons which the oligarch-patron put in the hands of the subservient press and they serve without discernment and honesty.
Such a crass manipulation, such a coarse distortion of truth has never happened in the history of the electoral process from the Republic of Moldova.
In this media context, we appeal to the media NGOs, to the journalists who respect the principles of journalism and the ethical code; to the small number of sources of independent press that still exist, that try to survive, accomplishing honestly their job.
We urge you, in the time until October 30, to mobilize at maximum for presenting to voters objective, correct, equidistant and credible information about the electoral campaign, candidates, frauds, manipulations, abuses, infringements, etc.
The regime will heavily use all the methods to compromise the election and the aware vote of the citizens. We call you to demolish the false profiles of the candidates of stability and geopolitical opposition, the myths about “the smallest evil”, or the danger of the Russian tanks. The person who will go to the polling station has to have a truthful and complete image of the situation in order to be able to do the right choice.
We are at crossroads. We have a unique chance to save our country and future. That is why, the involvement of free press institutions can be decisive in this unequal battle with the anti-popular government and its representatives.

The liberal arts (Latin: artes liberales) are those subjects or skills that in classical antiquity were considered essential for a free person (a citizen) to know in order to take an active part in civic life. In Ancient Greece this included participating in public debate, defending oneself in court, serving on juries, and most importantly, military service (slaves and resident aliens were by definition excluded from the duties and responsibilities of citizenship).
