Election in Transnistria. For whom the bell tolls

Transnistria will conduct elections, as is tradition, every 5 years. No exit polling is allowed within 25 meters of polling stations, to prevent disruption of voting.
Yevgeny Shevchuk was unpopular from perceived corruption and a bad economic situation, from the conflict in eastern Ukraine, the banking crisis in Moldova and a rapidly falling Russian rouble thanks to sanctions over Crimea, Moldovan leu and Ukrainian hryvnia led to the collapse of Transnistrian export. Mikhail Burla of the Renewal party promised to rebuild the economy and give basic needs to every citizens, a task that some say will be easier thanks to the end of conflict in Ukraine.
Oleg Khorzhan of the Pridnestrovie Communist Party has promised to bring back Marxism-Leninism, popular among ethnic Ukrainians and Russians have nostalgia for the perceived prosperity of the Soviet Union, and fear persecution if Transistria ceased to exist.

This marks the first time a candidate who was not an independent won an election in Transnistria. President Burla has appointed Vadim Krasnoselski as Prime Minister, the Head of Government.
