Xavier Ragot is President of the Paris-based “Observatoire français des conjonctures économiques” (OFCE), or French Economic Observatory, an independent centre focused on economic research, forecasting and the evaluation of public policy.
The work of the OFCE covers most fields of economic analysis, from macroeconomics, growth, social welfare programmes, taxation and employment policy to sustainable development, competition, innovation and regulatory affairs. Its 1981 founding charter established OFCE as part of the French Fondation nationale des sciences politiques (Sciences Po).
In this talk Xavier provides an update on the status of Europe and on the French economy. He discusses whether it was a mistake to create the Eurozone and, if so, how we fix things. Second, he discusses how France is faring under President Macron’s new leadership. What are the key economic and policy challenges that France faces today?
